Okay, so I'm going to ask a favor which is slightly out of character for me. Tomorrow my parents and two of their friends hop on a fourteen hour flight to Japan, and I am being a worrier, so...
If you guys could spare some thoughts, prayers, well wishes, good karma, or what have you, I would really appreciate it.

Well, from a mathematical/statistical standpoint when looking at population proportions; your parents are more likely to get t-boned by Mike Tyson on the highway, or get launched out of a trebuchet than they are to die in a commercial plane crash. Other things more probable include winning the lottery and then being eaten by an alligator, and being the victim of a hippopotamus attack.
I have no idea if that makes you feel any better,I mean, math never made ME feel any better.
Outside of that, there was a psychological study on worry I read once. The main point was that studies of worriers show that fretting actually makes them less anxious... at least while they’re in the midst of it. That’s because worrying gives the person the illusion of control. You think to yourself that by imagining all the worst things that could happen, you can have solutions in place beforehand. But the reality is that since you can never think of all the possibilities, your worrying is never done.
Gotta take a deep breath,kid.

That reminds me. The other day in class, a student asked me, "What's the biggest animal in your country?"
Figuring they meant native animals, I suggested maybe the grizzly bear. But when I in turn asked about the biggest animal in Japan?
"Elephant."
Well, yeah, kid, we have elephants too, if you're gonna count zoos!
You should have told them it was me.
Or the platypus,and then made noises that resembled no recognizable animal. That woulda kept them guessing.
I'd make an awesome teacher.
